A brick workout refers to biking and then immediately after that running. It is called a brick workout because, well, your legs feel like bricks when you start running and IT IS SUPER HARD. Plus, today it was in the 70's here in Western Michigan which meant
I did it! And I didn't collapse, so that's always a positive. I didn't bike as hard as I normally do because I knew I needed to save some strength and energy for the run. Part of the bike route was new, so that was fun. The run...I wanted to stop and give up the whole time. I did have to do some run/walk intervals, and there was one point when I passed by home that I thought about quitting. But I persevered! Not bad for my first brick workout.
Another issue I had when running today is that I felt like I was carrying a lot of stuff. The last few times I've gone running I've taken my iPhone with me so I can use my app to track my route and be able to look at my pace while running. So I had that with me. Plus, I took water out on this run which I never do. I figured it would be necessary since I had done the bike ride prior and it was so hot. I was definitely glad to have the water, but felt like I concentrating the whole time on juggling my phone and water bottle instead of running and breathing correctly. I know I could get an armband for my iPhone, but I feel like it won't be as easy to look at if it's attached to my arm. I know I could get a waistband for water bottles, but those just look so bulky! What I really want is is a GPS watch/heart rate monitor. There are a lot of options out there and I just can't decide. Well, I can decide but the one I want is the Garmin 910XT...I don't exactly have $450 sitting around right now.
So what about you? What gadgets do you use to go running? Or do you not take anything at all?
